The lake has a good variation in the level of difficulty in casting. For novices the dam wall is very easy to fish as is most of the right hand bank. The left hand bank is more difficult to fish but the extra effort required can be rewarded with excellent fishing. As the fish are often fairly close to the shore roll casting will cover the water.
Fly life is the same as most upland reservoirs with Buzzers catching throughout the season and Daddies coming in from August onwards. We have a fairly substantial Mayfly hatch which can produce fantastic visual fishing given the right conditions. Lures can be effective at times but more and more fish are being taken on the dry fly, which must be the most satisfying and exciting way to catch trout.
